The Quinta do Quetzal estate
Quinta do Quetzal is set in the heart of the Alentejo region on the rich slopes of Vidigueira, close to the oldest known Roman winery in Portugal and Spain. The region’s micro climate and its hills make it the perfect location for a unique terroir. The grapes grow on soil rich in schist, the local mineral stone. While the area around Quinta do Quetzal is generally sunny and warm, its positioning on the foothills of the Serra do Mendro allows cooler air in from the Atlantic ocean. These conditions lead to big variations in temperature, giving the grapes the heat to ripen and the cooling breezes to recover. Quinta do Quetzal focuses on limited production of concentrated and top quality grapes in order to create a wine that expresses the character of its surroundings.
To complete Quinta do Quetzal, a new building with a restaurant, shop and art center was opened in 2016. The building is partly covered with schist slates.
See all the experiences
The center stands out but also seamlessly fits into its surroundings. The use of natural local flora on the estate completes the visitor’s experience of the natural habitat of the Alentejo region.

a family winery
Cees and Inge de Bruin are collectors and patrons of contemporary art. They, together with their family, have had a warm relationship with Portugal for over 40 years. Through Quinta do Quetzal they started to share their passion for Portuguese culture, nature, food and wine. Every year, their daughter, Aveline de Bruin, creates a new exhibition on the estate. Their private contemporary art collection is the starting point for most exhibitions.

OUR legacy: a story written in the vines
At Quinta do Quetzal, our wines are born from the soul of the land, crafted with passion, precision, and the finest grapes grown exclusively on our estate.
Spanning 52.5 hectares (129.7 acres), our vineyards are a true reflection of the unique terroir of the Alentejo, divided into distinct plots, each contributing its own character to the wines we produce.
The estate includes 2.5 hectares (6.2 acres) of old vines, over 40 years old, which we consider a true treasure. These ancient vines, with their exceptionally low yields, produce grapes of extraordinary concentration and depth.
The remaining 50 hectares (123.5 acres) are planted with vineyards averaging 20 years of age, all farmed with the same dedication to low yields.
Together, these vineyards produce wines that are authentic and distinctive, capturing the essence of Vidigueira’s terroir and reflecting the heritage of Quinta do Quetzal.

OUR Winery: Where tradition meets inovation
Step into our modern wine cellar, where time-honored techniques blend with innovative practices to create wines of unique quality. Inspired by ancient methods used by the Romans and the people of the Alentejo, our winemaking process honors the traditions of the past while embracing the possibilities of the future.
Grapes are gently brought into our cellar by the natural force of gravity, a process that reduces mechanical handling and preserves the purity of the fruit. Once inside, the underground environment provides the perfect conditions for aging, where wines slowly evolve in a naturally cool and stable climate. This delicate process allows us to craft wines that are both refined and expressive, capturing the full character of our land.

Sustainability
At Quinta do Quetzal, sustainability is woven into the very fabric of our winemaking philosophy. From the vines to the bottle, every step of the process reflects our commitment to preserving the land for generations to come. Our wines are sustainably grown, produced, and bottled right here on the estate.
