Invited to participate in Évora 2027, European Capital of Culture, Quinta do Quetzal presents Layers of Time (What the Soil Holds), an exhibition curated by Aveline de Bruin and Filipa Oliveira that brings together six contemporary artists exploring our relationship with the earth, the traces of our ancestral past, the complexities of our present and the uncertainties of our future.
Rooted in the unique geological, ecological and cultural character of the Alentejo, the exhibition is closely connected to VAGAR, the guiding philosophy of Évora 2027, which embraces slowness, attentive observation and a deeper awareness of our place in time and nature.
Through their works, the artists invite us to discover the Alentejo in unexpected ways. They reveal processes that often remain invisible, uncover stories and memories embedded in the land, and offer new perspectives on the relationships between geology, ecology, human activity and the passage of time.
Unfolding both within Quetzal Art Center and across the surrounding estate, the exhibition invites visitors to experience the Alentejo through different senses and perspectives; to look more closely, listen more attentively and reconsider what the earth beneath us holds.
Layers of Time is supported by Collection de Bruin-Heijn and Évora_2027, European Capital of Culture.
>> Further details about the exhibition and the participating artists will be announced in the coming months.
