Dick Verdult contributed a work to the exhibition Cave Myths at Quetzal Art Center called ¿Yucatan?. It conflates representations of the mythical Quetzal bird, an ear and a cave. The title refers to the historical misunderstanding of local Mayan language by the Spanish colonizers, who upon asking ‘What is this area called’, were answered ‘Yucatan’, meaning ‘I don’t understand what you are saying’.
The artwork is on view in the restaurant of Quinta do Quetzal.
